Join us for a Peacock Stage pre-show discussion on Asking for It, moderated by Lisa Farrelly.

Join two of the makers of Asking for It Louise O’Neill and Annabelle Comyn, with authors Emilie Pine and John Boyne in a conversation on staging challenging material. Together they will discuss issues of publishing, sharing creative personal work for the public gaze and counting the cost of their brutal honesty.

Louise O’Neill

Louise O’ Neill is the author of the novel Asking For It and has written numerous books, including Only Ever Yours, Almost Love, and a feminist re-writing of the Little Mermaid, The Surface Breaks. Though all of her books deal with feminist topics, Asking For It caused a national conversation around rape culture when it was published in 2015. It has since been the basis for an RTÉ documentary and this stage adaptation which premiered at The Everyman Theatre in 2018.

Annabelle Comyn

Annabelle Comyn is director and co-adaptor of Asking For It, Annabelle is an award-winning Irish theatre director, Artistic Director of HATCH Theatre Company, and Director in Residence at The Lir, the National Academy of Dramatic Arts, Ireland.

Emilie Pine

Emilie Pine is Associate Professor of Modern Drama at the School of English, Drama and Film, University College Dublin. Emilie has published widely as an academic and critic. Her first collection of personal essays, Notes to Self, was published in 2018 by Tramp Press.

John Boyne

John Boyne is a multi-award winning novelist for adults and younger readers including The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas which was a New York Times No.1 Best Seller. John’s novels have been published in over fifty languages and his most recent novel A Ladder to the Sky has just been published.

Asking For It is a Landmark Productions and Everyman co-production, presented and co-commissioned by the Abbey Theatre.
