Transition Year Programme

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, our Transition Year Programme for 2021/2022 is cancelled.

We hope to launch the 2022/2023 programme in September 2022.

The programme offers work experience placements for Transition Year students. It is an inspiring week of activity for those with a strong interest in theatre. With access to every team, students attend talks and workshops and can observe the theatre’s staff at work. Where possible, students also have an opportunity to watch a live piece of theatre from behind the scenes.

Transition Year Student, Jessica Hayes
“I really enjoyed seeing Waiting for Godot backstage and Theatre Lovett’s rehearsal and performance. Meeting people so passionate about theatre like Graham and Phil really instilled in me what working at the Abbey is really like. The props and costume tours around the building really added to the week as they complimented the various presentations. The group I was with was an added bonus, I was appreciative of the group’s diversity and interests in various areas of theatre. Thank you for exceeding my expectations.”
