As part of Fáilte Ireland’s Pop-Up Theatre in Historic Places, Amanda Coogan and the Dublin Theatre of the Deaf bring Teresa Deevy’s story to The Abbey Theatre. A series of ISL-interpreted performances will run at Pegeen’s Café throughout the day.
Born in 1894, Teresa Deevy was deaf from the age of nineteen. Also known as The Waterford Woman, she was a successful dramatist and playwright. In the 1930s, six of her plays were performed on stage in the Abbey Theatre and her reputation as a brilliant and talented writer had critics referring to her as the next Sean O’Casey or the ‘Irish Chekhov’.
