An evening of poetry and song marking 10 years since the death of one of Ireland’s most-loved poetic voices, An Afterwards brings together a range of poets and musicians to celebrate this consummate craftsman of words.
To quote fellow poet Vona Groarke: “To read Seamus Heaney is to learn how a poem is put together: how, like a musical instrument, its stops and openings can be coordinated and played beautifully.”
This celebration will include contributions by poets such as Jane Clarke, Chiamaka Enyi-Amadi, Paula Meehan, John Kelly, Michael Longley, Mícheál McCann and Vona Groarke; musicians SOAK, Louise Mulcahy, The Hellas Ensemble, Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill, Donal Lunny, and Neil Martin; & actors Luke Dolan, Stephen Rea, Sean McGinley, Pauline Hutton, Clare Dunne, Fionnula Flanagan and Kamila Dydyna.
His artistic and creative influence, and the genuine affection in which he is held nationwide and further afield, are widely acknowledged & recently highlighted in this RTÉ article. This evening celebrates his legacy through his own words and those of other artists.
